download. This release builds cleanly on the following platforms:
- Ubuntu 10.10
- Redhat Enterprise Server 5.5

- Debian squeeze/sid (via Linux Mint Debian Edition)
SimpleScalar DEF file format revised! - August 25, 2008
The SimpleScalar tools use the DEF files to specify the intricacies
instruction semantics, dependencies and disassembly. We have created a
document that explains the DEF file format; also included in the file are
details on how to add new instructions to an existing instruction set and
access those instructions using GNU GCC "asm" features. The new DEF file
format documentation is available
here.

HotSpot thermal modeling tool available from University of Virginia
- May 28, 2004
Prof. Kevin
Skadron and his students at University of Virginia have released HotSpot,
a high-performance thermal modeling tool suitable for use in architectural
studies. It is based on an equivalent circuit of thermal resistances and
capacitances that correspond to microarchitecture blocks and essential
aspects of the thermal package. HotSpot has a simple set of interfaces,
making it straightforward to integrate into existing simulation tools such as
SimpleScalar or Wattch. The web page for the project can be found here.
SimpleScalar in the literature - December 18, 2003
The "Who's
Using It" page has been updated through October 2003. We added
112 papers from 20 conferences and workshops. These papers used
SimpleScalar tools to evaluate their designs.
SimpleScalar version 3.0d maintenance release available - October
8, 2003
Update version 3.0d of SimpleScalar is now available. This maintenance
update improves support for RedHat
Linux (version 9) and Windows (via Cygwin
GNU tools). The new release can be found here.
SimPoint Analysis Toolkit release by UCSD - September 26, 2002
Prof. Calder and
his students at UCSD have released the SimPoint Analysis Toolkit, a
collection of tools to figure out where you should spend your time simulating
to get fast, accurate, and representative results. They work well with
SimpleScalar simulators. The web page for the project can be found here.
IEEE Computer Magazine article on SimpleScalar - April 17, 2002
IEEE Computer magazine has published a feature article on the SimpleScalar
tool set, written by Prof.
Austin and two of his Ph.D. students Dan
Ernst and Eric
Larson. IEEE members can get a copy of the article here.
SimpleScalar in the literature - April 12, 2002
The 29th
Annual International Symposium on Computer Architecture (ISCA 2002) has published this year's advanced program. More than
one half of the papers published in the conference used SimpleScalar tools
to evaluate their design! We've listed them on the "Who's
Using It" page.
SimpleScalar/ARM integrated into SimpleScalar v4.0 test release - March
1, 2002
The ARM target support for SimpleScalar is now available to all SimpleScalar
v4.0 testers. Details on how to download and build the ARM target
support can be found on the SimpleScalar v4.0 test release web page.
SimpleScalar in the literature - February 2, 2002
The 8th
International Symposium on High-Performance Computer Architecture
(HPCA-8) has published this year's advanced program. More than one
third of the papers published in the conference used SimpleScalar tools
to evaluate their design! We've listed them on the "Who's
Using It" page.
SimpleScalar Tutorial slides now available online - December
12, 2001
A SimpleScalar tutorial was held at MICRO-34.
It gave an overview of the SimpleScalar tool set including the
new features introduced in SimpleScalar version 4.0 (due out early next
year). The slides from the tutorial are online here.
SimpleScalar in the literature - December 4, 2001
The 34th International Symposium on Microarchitecture
(MICRO-34) has published this year's advanced program. More than two
out of five papers published in the conference used SimpleScalar tools
to evaluate their design! We've listed them on the "Who's
Using It" page.
